I’ve reached the halfway point of Tri, although I feel pretty mixed about this film. Taken on its own, it’s a clear improvement over Determination; the stakes are upped with “Homeostasis” being introduced, and the subplot with the Digimon being infected provides the kids as well as the agents some good character moments. However… to put it bluntly, the movie is a worse version of Kizuna. The general throughline of the kids losing their Digimon is virtually identical, and a lot of the specifics hardly differ either (eg: the “infection” is basically the timer from Kizuna, just without an explicit countdown). I can’t fault it too much considering it came out well before that film, but it’s hard to feel for the characters when I’ve already seen them go through essentially the exact same conflict. We still haven’t found out anything about Ken or the 02 kids though, and apparently Meiko’s Digimon still remembers her despite the others being completely reset. The pacing has been pretty good to this point, so I don’t mind the wait, but I hope these loose plot threads start being wrapped up in the next film. Overall, I had a good time while watching, but it doesn’t have much of a distinct identity to me.
